Claude Cowork and chat are now one Claude
Anthropic is merging Claude Cowork and standard chat into a single unified assistant that can handle quick questions and long background tasks.
Keeping track of different AI modes can be exhausting when you just want to get work done. Anthropic is streamlining things by combining Claude Cowork directly into the standard Claude interface. Instead of switching between separate workspaces or wondering which tool fits your task, you now have one place for everything from quick troubleshooting to long-running background projects.
As developer Simon Willison noted, the shift indicates "Claude is becoming a general agent" capable of tackling complex, multi-step workflows. That means you can assign research, drafting, or planning tasks to Claude and let it run in the background while you focus on building your app in tools like Cursor, Lovable, or Bolt.
For beginners, simpler is always better. You no longer need to guess which version of Claude to open for a specific task. One consistent interface makes it much easier to integrate AI assistance into your daily building routine.
