Supabase Select 2026 Recap
Supabase unveiled new features that let AI coding assistants configure backend databases, run locally without Docker, and monitor app health directly.
When you build apps with tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or Lovable, setting up and managing your backend database is often the trickiest step. Supabase is shifting to a code-first approach designed specifically to let AI coding agents handle database setups, schemas, and maintenance directly inside your project files.
Among the biggest updates is the ability to run a local Supabase environment without Docker, making it much easier to test code inside AI sandboxes like Claude Code. Supabase also added built-in support for the Model Context Protocol, allowing your AI assistant to read project health metrics, query logs, and propose database adjustments while you review and approve the changes.
For anyone learning to build software, these changes remove a major hurdle. Instead of constantly clicking through web dashboards or wrestling with server settings, your AI tools can now manage your database infrastructure right alongside your application code.
