Bolt.new vs v0: Building the Same Landing Page Twice

Bolt.new and v0 both turn a prompt into working frontend code fast, but they come from different starting points, and it shows once you use them side by side.

What each tool actually is

Bolt.new, built by StackBlitz, runs a full development environment in your browser using WebContainers — meaning it can install packages, run a real Node server, and execute full-stack code without a remote server behind it. Bolt has also partnered with Microsoft to bring that same agentic building experience into Azure and Microsoft 365 for enterprise teams. v0, built by Vercel, is more tightly focused on generating polished React and Next.js UI — it leans on shadcn/ui components and is built to hand off cleanly into a production Next.js codebase on Vercel's own hosting.

Describing the same brief to both

We gave both tools an identical brief: a landing page for a fictional plant-subscription service, with a hero, a three-tier pricing section, and an email signup. Both produced a usable, responsive page on the first attempt — that part of the AI-builder promise holds up.

Where they diverged

v0's first output leaned more polished by default — consistent spacing, a component structure that felt closer to "production-ready" out of the box, which tracks with its focus on generating clean, composable UI. Bolt.new's output was equally functional but felt slightly rawer visually on the first pass; where it pulled ahead was in being able to immediately add backend behavior — a working signup form that actually stored an email — inside the same session, without switching tools.

Which one to reach for

If you're building a UI-heavy frontend that you plan to extend inside the Next.js/Vercel ecosystem, v0's output style will feel like less cleanup. If you want one tool that can take you from a static landing page to a working full-stack feature — forms that save data, simple backend logic — without leaving the browser, Bolt.new's all-in-one environment is the more direct path. Plenty of builders use both: v0 for polishing a specific UI section, Bolt for anything that needs real functionality attached quickly.
